The good news keeps coming for Lawson Humphries, with the defender being the first Geelong player named in the Western Australian squad for next year’s State of Origin clash against Victoria.

It follows the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a contract extension earlier this month that will keep him in the Hoops until the end of 2028.

A product of the Wickham Wolves, Humphries was drafted from WAFL club Swan Districts with the penultimate pick in the 2023 National Draft.

Since making his debut against Essendon in Round 16, 2024, Humphries has played 36 of a possible 37 games, including five finals.

His selection in the Sandgropers’ line-up takes the number of Cats confirmed for the February 14 contest at Optus Stadium to five.

Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield, two-time best-and-fairest Max Holmes, star defender Tom Stewart, and Coleman medallist Jeremy Cameron are part of the Victorian team, which will be coached by Chris Scott.

K rock Football understands Bailey Smith will also be unveiled as a Big V team member.
