EXCITING Geelong forward Gary Rohan remains a chance to play in Saturday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs despite suffering a concussion in the win over North Melbourne.
Rohan staggered from the field during the third quarter after a head clash with Sam Durdin that cost the Roo a one-week suspension.
Cats’ football boss Simon Lloyd says Rohan was in at the club on Tuesday and is “feeling good”.
“Different people react in different ways to a concussion, so he’ll go through all the prescribed tests,” Lloyd said.
“We do not take any risks in this area, and, as always, it will be the doctor’s call.”
Rookie Tom Atkins is also being monitored after battling hip soreness.
“To Tommy’s credit, he was able to get himself back out there for small parts of the game because we did have a number of players coming on and off (the interchange) at different times with various injuries,” Lloyd said.
“Tommy did manage to get through but did look sore.
“We are only a couple of days post-game, so we’ll see how he pulls up in the coming days and how he is once he gets moving at training later this week.
All-Australian defender Tom Stewart, who left the field with a neck issue, is expected to be right.
“I spoke to him as late as this (Tuesday) afternoon, and he said “I’m feeling fine,” Lloyd said.
“He’s had no issue at all, so let’s just see how he is later in the week, and, again, make sure that our medical department ticks off everything they need to before saying he’s right to be selected.”
Lloyd confirmed veteran defender Lachie Henderson, who missed a month with a plantar fascia issue, needs a scan on the same foot after being forced from the ground during Geelong’s VFL loss to North Melbourne.
“He’s pulled up sore, but the medical team is saying he should be able to move quite freely over the next week,” Lloyd said.
“We’re still having a good look at that. In the next couple of days, Lachie will get scanned, and we’ll work through it.
“Our biggest thing for Lachie is that we won’t take any risks and we’ll be more conservative.
“Lachie’s got a lot of good football to play this year.”
Captain Joel Selwood, who has missed consecutive games, including pulling out of the loss to North Melbourne after the teamsheet was lodged did a running session at GMHBA Stadium on Tuesday.
Midfielder Sam Menegola (knee) who was a late withdrawal on Sunday, will also be assessed later in the week.
