Geelong’s incredible record of coaching stability will continue until at least the end of the decade, after Chris Scott put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

The 49-year-old, who has a year to run on his current deal, looks set to remain at GMHBA Stadium until at least the end of 2029.

Cats president Grant McCabe announced the news at last (Thursday) night’s AGM.

A two-time premiership winner, including in his first season in charge in 2011, Scott is the club’s longest-serving coach, with his 360 games 56 clear of Reg Hickey.

However, to date, Hickey has coached more seasons, spanning 18 years across three stints.

Since replacing John Devine with Malcolm Blight heading into the 1989 season, Scott is only Geelong’s fourth coach in an almost 40-year period.

He sits 18th overall in VFL/AFL history for games coached and, at some stage in 2027, will become just the 15th to reach the 400-game milestone.

Scott has coached 33 finals, equal eighth all-time with the legendary Ron Barassi.

He is just five wins away from 250, which has been achieved only 11 times.
