Chris Scott has been named coach of Victoria for next year’s State-of-Origin clash with Western Australia.

The two-time premiership winning Geelong coach was confirmed this (Tuesday) morning as leading the Big V for the meeting against the Sandgropers at Optus Stadium on February 14.

Sydney coach Dean Cox will lead Western Australia in what will be the first proper State-of-Origin match since 1999.

Scott, who has been in charge of the Cats since 2011, has previously coached Australia at International Rules level against Ireland.

“Chris’ remarkable record as a coach speaks for itself, and it is great to see him recognised with the honour of coaching the Victorian team in the return of State of Origin football,” Geelong coach Steve Hocking said.

“As a club, we’re excited to see State of Origin return to the football calendar in its new form, and look forward to seeing some of the best football talent in the country gathered for the game.”

Scott and Cox will now select three assistant coaches and a high-performance manager, with a Chairman of Selectors also to be appointed for both states.
