At Selection – AFL Round 19

July 21, 2022 6:30 pm in by

BRANDAN Parfitt will have to wait another week to return to Geelong’s starting twenty-two after being named as an emergency for Saturday’s clash with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The out-of-contract midfielder hasn’t played since breaking his hand in the win over the Western Bulldogs on June 3.

Parfitt was cleared to play last week but missed the win against Carlton after contracting COVID-19.

However, he may still get the chance to take on the Power after being named as a medi-sub.

“Parfitt’s missed a lot of footy now, so we need to think through it,” coach Chris Scott said on Wednesday.

“The vagaries of the competition again mean that we don’t have a VFL game this weekend.

“Parf’s missed with a (broken) hand. So, the positive there is he’s got a power of running in, and at least he’s running fit.

“(It’s) hard to gauge how footy fit he is. But, he’ll certainly be in our squad, and then we’ll work through exactly how that plays out.”

Also in the mix to be the medi-sub are veteran small forward Luke Dahlhaus, young forward Shannon Neale, and uncapped half-back Nick Stevens.

Stevens put himself in contention for an AFL debut after 36 disposals in last week’s VFL loss to the Blues.
