Geelong could be boosted by the return of small forward Kate Surman and backup ruck Gabbi Featherston for Saturday’s must-win meeting with Richmond.

Surman has missed the past two matches after suffering a concussion in the Week 5 loss to Hawthorn.

Featherston was sidelined from the win over Sydney last Sunday with an Achilles issue.

“Kate is progressing well through the protocols – up until this point, everything is on track, and we expect her to be available for this weekend,” assistant football boss Brett Johnson said.

“Gabbi will be a test for this week. We took the conservative approach by leaving her out on the weekend.

“Provided Gabbi gets through training this week, she’ll be available to play.”

Amy McDonald remains sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered against the Hawks, with Geelong hopeful of the star midfielder’s return for the meeting with West Coast in week nine.

Gun forward Chloe Scheer’s chances of playing this season are fading, with the club to provide an update on her toe issue in the coming days.
