Geelong ruck Rhys Stanley hasn’t ruled out extending his career into 2026.
After starting the season in the VFL, the 34-year-old is arguably in some of the best form of his 16-season career.
With youngsters Toby Conway and Mitch Edwards battling injury, and the experiment with key defender Sam De Koning on the backburner for now, Stanley has made nine appearances at AFL level for eight wins and one loss.
Take away the win over Collingwood, when he was subbed out in the first quarter with a hamstring injury, Stanley is averaging 30 hitouts and 11 disposals a game.
“I’m certainly open to anything,” Stanley, who has played 161 of his 219 games in the Hoops, told K rock’s Tom, Lingy & Loggy.
“You sort of have to be, don’t you? I think it would be silly… to think, ‘Oh, that’s it’.
“I love being around the place. My family loves it. I love everything that the Cats are about.
“I’ve just really enjoyed my time here, so I’d be silly not to explore what it looks like.
“But at the moment, it is, back to one of those clichés, it is just do my job for now and see if that works out.”
