Georgie Prespakis isn’t getting too caught up in the sideshow accompanying Sunday’s AFLW elimination final between Geelong and Essendon.
The star midfielder will cross paths with sister Madison in a battle that will have a significant influence on the outcome of the matchup at GMHBA Stadium.
Both sit inside the AFLW top-ten for disposals, with Madison equal sixth, averaging 26.8 and Georgie tenth at 25.3.
Regarding contested disposals, sixth-ranked Georgie slightly shades seventh-placed Madison, 136-135.
“I sent her a message last night,” Georgie said. “I just want her to enjoy the week of the build-up to the final.
“But, as for my week with the Cats, my 100 per cent full attention is with Geelong and doing what we can to get the win this week.
“I just want to do my thing and let her enjoy her week.”
For Geelong, it will be the club’s third finals appearance since joining the competition in 2019.
The Cats lost a preliminary final to the Crows in Adelaide in their debut season and an elimination final to North Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium last year.
After going into the loss to the Kangaroos carrying an ankle injury suffered in the final round of the home-and-away season, Prespakis gathered a season-low 14 disposals.
With that in the back of the Cats’ mind late in the win over Hawthorn, coach Dan Lowther sat Prespakis for most of the final quarter.
“That was a coaching staff decision off the back of last year hurting my ankle in the fourth quarter,” she said.
“It was probably for the best; look at the bigger picture, and a few of us just rested to be as fresh as we can coming into this week.”
Geelong and Essendon met during the home-and-away season, with the Bombers keeping the Cats to their lowest score of the season, 2.7 (19), in a 10-point result in Warrnambool in Round 6.
On that day, the Prespakis sisters led their respective teams in disposals, with Madison gathering 33 disposals and Georgie 26.
“We’ll look at what we could have done better that game,” Georgie said. “As a whole team performance, it wasn’t anywhere near our best.
“So, we’ll reflect on what some of our best football looked like throughout the season, and we’ll look to bring that against the Bombers this week.”
Sunday’s meeting with Essendon starts at 1:05pm, with tickets on sale via this link.
