Geelong key defender Sam De Koning will use tomorrow’s VFL qualifying final to get match conditioning ahead of the Cats’ September AFL campaign.

Sidelined since the Round 21 win over Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium, the 23-year-old defender is likely to play capped minutes in Geelong’s meeting with Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval.

De Koning is one of six AFL-listed Cats that will be part of a 17-string contingent named for the clash with the Tigers.

Livewire forward Gary Rohan, premiership utility Mark Connor, fellow Irishman Oisin Mullin, and young midfielders Mitch Knevitt and Ted Clohesy have also been included.

Clohesy returns from a concussion suffered in the Round 20 loss to Carlton.

Experienced defender Jed Bews is out of the team that defeated Sandringham to secure the double-chance in Round 21 after playing in Geelong’s final-round AFL win over West Coast.

GFNL talents Tanner Lovell, Ethan Borys, Hamish Lucas, Jack Sarcevic, and Geelong Falcons-listed ruck Joe Pike also make way.
