COVID interruptions have forced the reduction of the VFL season to 14 matches.
It means Geelong, which sits sixth with a 6-2 win-loss record, will play six games across the final seven rounds.
The finals series, which will feature eight teams, will commence on August 28, with the grand final confirmed for Marvel Stadium on Sunday, September 19.
“The VFL community has shown great resilience, commitment and dedication to get through an unprecedented year for football,” the AFL’s Tristan Salter said.
“The season has been different, but the rivalries are fierce, the standard is exceptionally high, and the addition of new clubs has provided a competition like no other.
“The VFL football-starved community of fans across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland have been rewarded with the highest standard of state league football in the country this season, and there is much for fans to look forward to as we push towards the finals.”
VFLW: CATS URGED TO TAKE THEIR CHANCES
Geelong’s season continues on Saturday with a clash against fourth-placed Williamstown at Downer Oval.
The Cats have been strengthened by the return from injury of Jordan Clark, Sam Simpson and Nathan Krueger, while Quinton Narkle is also a chance to take on the Seagulls after being dropped from the AFL team.
