Young ruck Mitch Edwards will play his first game in nearly 12 months after being named in Geelong’s VFL team for its meeting with the Brisbane Lions at GMHBA Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

The Cats have taken the conservative approach with the 206cm West Australian, who was battling pelvic-related groin soreness in the early part of the season.

Edwards has since undertaken an extensive conditioning program.

He is one of four inclusions for the Cats, who sit 15th on the ladder and are coming off a two-point win over reigning premier Werribee last week.

Jack Bowes and Keighton Matofai-Forbes will see Geelong’s AFL-listed contingent swell to 13.

VFL-listed big man Nathan Kreuger also returns.

They replace Ollie Henry, who’s been recalled to the AFL team, Jyhe Clark (concussion protocols), and VFL duo Charlie McCartin and Kobe George, who are both being managed.

First bounce is at 11:05 a.m.
