A Barwon Prison employee has been charged, accused of smuggling drugs into the Lara complex.
Police were called to the correctional facility on Tuesday, after staff allegedly found the drugs on her person.
She was arrested and charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety alleged a crystal-like substance was found in an intelligence-led barrier security operation.
A spokesperson said they take a zero-tolerance approach to contraband and report all criminal conduct allegations to police.
“Victoria’s prison system has one of the toughest and most extensive contraband detection regimes and regularly conducts operations to prevent drugs and other contraband from being smuggled into prisons,” they said.
“In addition to potential criminal charges, any staff found attempting to smuggle contraband can face a range of disciplinary action, including termination of their employment.”
The staff member was remanded in custody for a Geelong Magistrate’s Court appearance in September.
