Discussions are underway on a potential transformation of Kardinia Park.
The Stadium Trust, Victorian Government, and the City of Greater Geelong have announced an exploration into new opportunities, including what else could be added to the sporting precinct.
The Stadium generated over $190 million in social and economic impact in the 2024/25 financial year, with the Geelong region one of the fastest growing in the country.
Exploration works will look at how the precinct needs to evolve to continue meeting the needs of the region.
The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust manages 35 percent of the precinct.
““Kardinia Park is a unique place in Australia, and we look forward to embarking on the next stage of planning to ensure we have a strong, vibrant, and flexible Kardinia Park that supports the community,” Trust Chair, Hon Mr John Eren.
Local MPs have thrown their support behind the project.
“Kardinia Park is a centre for local and elite sports, and major events in Geelong, attracting many visitors to the region. Exploring the next stage of transformation for the precinct will help ensure it continues to be a thriving place for the community,” Geelong MP Christine Couzens said.
Member for Lara Ella George said it’s important the precinct develops as the population does.
“A Kardinia Park that suits the future needs of the entire region is key as we continue to be one of the fastest growing areas in the country,” she said.
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant says sport is at the heart of the community.
“The development of the Kardinia Park precinct will support future generations across the Bellarine and Greater Geelong region, providing a premier sporting, entertainment and community precinct close to home,” she said.
It follows the completion of the Kardinia Park Stadium Stage 5 Redevelopment, a $142 million project that included the completion of the Joel Selwood Stand.
