Libs begin election campaign with Pakington pledge

The election promises have started flowing for Geelong.

The Liberals promising a $50,000 CCTV network on Pakington Street if elected.

The Libs announcing nine new cameras for the shopping strip if they win at the polls in November.

Liberal leader Jess Wilson said it was an important move.

“Pakington Street should be known for its great shops, cafés and restaurants, not smashed windows, stolen stock and traders wondering who will be targeted next,” she said.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj said it was a good start.

“The city has identified nine locations, prepared the costings and advocated for this project because traders and residents want practical action,” he said.

“CCTV is not a standalone solution, but it can deter offending, assist Victoria Police investigations and improve community confidence.”
