Russia has announced that several current and former politicians across the nation are now banned from the country.

And it includes a number of people from the region.

Locally, Labor Victorian Legislative Assembly members Christine Couzens (Geelong), Alison Marchant (Bellarine) and Ella George (Lara) are all banned, as is John Eren, who George replaced as member for Lara in 2022.

Liberal member for Polwarth Richard Riordan, and Greens Legislative Council member Sarah Mansfield have also been banned.

Russia says that Australia’s “anti-Russian agenda” is the reason for the decision being made.

So far 230 names have been announced as being on the list, adding to a similar list last year.

Former premier Daniel Andrews is also banned from entering the country.

Other notable Victorian names include opposition leader John Pesutto and treasurer Tim Pallas.
