Pier fight continues

Locals are taking up the fight against a redevelopment of the St Leonards pier.

It’s become a point of contention among locals who want to see the pier remain in it’s current state.

But one proposal for the project could see it shortened, which locals say will have damage the area.

Local Damien Williams says will have a negative impact on the area

“The pier is currently concrete up to a point,” he said.

“One of the proposals doesn’t include the wooden section, which will cause issues.

“There are so many fish and life under the pier.

“When I’ve been snorkeling down there I’ve seen seahorses, blue ringed octopus, really special fish. And then there is the plant life as well.”
