Families across Geelong are scrambling to plan for a teachers’ strike next week.
Teachers at state schools are walking off the job for a second time this year, fighting for better pay and conditions.
Some local schools have already started notifying parents of the planned action happening next Thursday.
Opposition leader Jess Wilson has been in Geelong, saying Education Minister Ben Carroll needs to sort out the matter.
“He’s overseen the largest bungle of VCE exams in recent years,” Ms Wilson said.
“.. and now we’re seeing another day of strike action from our teachers, because he cannot negotiate a fair pay deal.”
However Senior Minister Harriet Shing said negotations were continuing.
“A proposed deal that was put (forward) would’ve seen teachers amongst the highest paid in Australia,” she said.
“Again, we would look forward to an agreement being able to be reached as soon as possible.”
