Speed limits on the Princes Freeway would be changed if the Coalition wins government at the state election.

Liberal leader Jess Wilson set to speak on the policy later today announce in Geelong, confirming that the road between Laverton North and Colac would be changed to 110km an hour, though areas like Winchelsea will see the limit drop.

Shadow roads minister and deputy Coalition leader Danny O’Brien said it was a logical change.

“From Melbourne to Colac, the whole freeway has been duplicated,” he said.

“We think those stretches that are at standard should be at 110, consistent with other stretches across the state.”

O’Brien said it would have a lot of long term impacts.

“The freeway standard is there. That will help locals get to work sooner, get home sooner, and also make a major difference in terms of freight efficiency.

“It will also make the area more attractive for tourists.”
