Newcomb’s Charlie Harvey has been handed a four-week suspension for an incident that left Barwon Heads star Doug Bond concussed.
AFL Barwon’s Match Review Panel assessed the incident during the final quarter of the Power’s 38-point loss at Howard Harmer Oval as careless conduct, severe impact, and high contact.
Footage shows Bond lose control of the ball after having a second bounce on the eastern edge of the centre square, about five minutes into the final term.
He then stumbles, and as he goes to ground, he and Harvey collide, leaving the former St Mary’s star motionless on the turf.
Harvey received a yellow card and was sent from the ground for 15 minutes.
Bond has entered the 21-day concussion protocol, and with Barwon Heads having consecutive byes (club and league-wide), he won’t play again until at least July 11.
Harvey can challenge the decision at the tribunal.
The local governing body’s coffers have been boosted by the melee that followed the Harvey-Bond incident, with both clubs fined $675.
Harvey’s teammate, Thewin Robertson, has been offered a one-match suspension with an early guilty plea for striking Seagull Jack Henderson.
The MRP graded the incident as intentional conduct, medium impact, and body contact, resulting in a two-match ban.
Barwon Heads’ Sam Hill can also accept a one-match suspension if he lodges an early guilty plea for a sling tackle on the Power’s Caleb Morrissy.
It was assessed as intentional conduct, low impact, and high contact.
Meanwhile, Surf Coast’s Tommy Stephen has an unwated piece of Suns’ history, after becoming the first player from the BFNL’s newest club to come under MRP scrutiny.
He can accept a one-match suspension for rough conduct on Ocean Grove’s Lachie Joyce during the third quarter of the shootout loss to the Grubbers at Summertime Pools Oval.
A two-match suspension for the incident, graded as careless conduct, medium impact, and high contact, can be halved if Stephen pleads guilty.
Anglesea’s Noah McGregor-Dawson has no case to answer after being assessed for rough conduct on Drysdale’s Jack Preece during the third quarter of the thriller at Ellimatta Reserve.
