DANIEL Jull has revealed ongoing concussion symptoms are continuing to impact his life as he announced he was stepping down as co-coach of Bellarine league club Drysdale.

Jull, who last played in the pre-season of 2019, confirmed his decision on Thursday night.

“It’s still quite an issue,” Jull said on the Hawks’ Facebook page. “Headaches are a daily occurrence for me still.

“Things that take a lot of thinking and mental stimulation tend to weigh me down a bit.

“Working full-time, and dealing with kids at home and the coaching role on top of that, there was a fair bit going on.

“Normally, I end with a headache at the end of the day. I probably need to try and focus on that and get rid of that out of my life because I don’t want to continue going forward with these headaches.”

Luke Matthews, who shared the role with Jull last year, will go it alone in 2021.

“It’s probably mixed emotions at the moment,” Matthews, two-time premiership player at the Hawks, said.

“I’m excited to continue and have the support of the club for me to continue in the role.

“(But) to see Daniel have to step aside, (I’m) pretty emotional about it.

“It’s very tough to see what he’s going through.”

Meanwhile, Geelong West has confirmed the coaching appointments for its GFL and GDFL teams for 2021.

Greg Mellor has signed a two-year contract extension to lead the GFL team in 2021 and 2022.

While Mitch Wight has been given the nod to go it alone with the GDFL side after sharing the position with Andrew Clark, who stepped down last week, in 2019.
