DANIEL Lovick’s glittering local football career will extend into 2021 – and it may not end there.
One of the most decorated players in the Geelong region, the two-time Mathieson medallist and GFL grand final best-on-ground medal winner, Lovick has revealed he will play on next year with BFL club Geelong Amateur.
He says a straight-sets finals exit after claiming the minor premiership is not the way he wants to end his career.
“It’s not how we wanted the season to end,” Lovick, who has spent two seasons at Queen’s Park after arriving from St Joseph’s, said.
“Hopefully we can keep our group together and have the same momentum.
“I hate losing, so I definitely don’t want to go out on two finals losses.”
Lovick, who will be 35 by the time the 2021 season gets underway, hasn’t ruled out playing on beyond next year.
“I’m still unsure, yet; I’ll just see how my body goes,” he said. “I’m at that point where I’m year-to-year.
“I’m a bad injury away from that being it. I always hear people say you’re a long time retired, so I don’t really want to fall into that basket.
“Touch wood, I haven’t had too many soft-tissue injuries. Most of my injuries have been broken bones – it hasn’t been really serious calves or hamstrings that have kept me out.
“In that way, I’ve been quite lucky with the way my body’s held up, which is why I want to keep going – to see what I can get out myself.”
