Thomson has become the third GDFNL club on the hunt for a new coach, with Paul Lynch departing the club.

Lynch, who was in charge at Godfrey Street for four years, including taking the Tigers to the 2024 premiership from an elimination final, has joined Central Highlands outfit Ballan on a three-year deal.

One of the leading coaches in the region for the past 25 years, the 62-game Geelong AFL player also tasted flag success with GFNL clubs Lara and Colac, and Colac and District club Birregurra.

He also had stints with Bellarine clubs Portarlington and Ocean Grove.

Lynch also led the GDFNL interleague team for the past two years, with former Corio star Toby Bennett, who captained the Raiders in 2025, now playing with Ballan.

“He brings a strong focus on leadership, player development, defensive discipline, accountability and building a winning culture,” a post on Ballan’s Facebook page said.

“His ability to develop football programs and raise standards across multiple clubs speaks for itself.”

Thomson, which is expected to make a statement in the next 24 hours, joins Geelong West and Bannockburn in looking for new leaders.
