Ben Boseley will step down as co-coach of St Mary’s at the end of the season, but his premiership-winning partner Luke Rayner will continue until at least the end of 2028.

Saints players were told last (Thursday) night of Boseley’s intention to stand aside after two seasons at Anthony Costa Oval.

“Unfortunately, ‘Bose’ won’t be going on next year just due to his family commitments and extended travel plans for next year,” president Sally Flynn KC told K rock Football.

“He has been absolutely fantastic, and the way that the two co-coaches have worked together has just been a really good combination.”

“We’ll certainly miss him next year.”

Boseley, a premiership player at South Barwon, tasted flag success as a coach with Colac and District club Birregurra, while also leading East Geelong for two seasons post-COVID.

Rayner, whose coaching resume locally includes Torquay, Bell Park and Winchelsea, has been in the shared role since 2024.

“We’re delighted to announce that ‘Raynes’ will continue leading our senior football program for the next two years,” Flynn said.

Flynn says St Mary’s hasn’t ruled out continuing with finding a running mate for Rayners.

“We think the co-coaching model works really well,” she said.

“It allows our coaches to have a little bit more free time and someone to share the decision-making with.

“So, we’ll have a look around for a co-coach.

“We’re not in a hurry to do that. We’ll make sure we get the right person in the job.”

St Mary’s, which has the bye this weekend, is the warm favourite to win consecutive flags, sitting on top of the ladder with a two-game buffer heading into the final third of the season.
