St Albans has re-signed coach Rick Munn to a new deal despite the second-year coach still having a year to run on his current contract.
It will keep the former Leopold assistant in the role until at least the end of 2029.
“He really gets what we’re trying to build; he’s not there for instant success. He really wants to build something,” co-president Craig Osborne said.
“We initially had a three-year plan, and he wants to enhance that, bring more players in, but, more importantly, bring that stability.
“We knew this year was going to be a little bit tougher with the draw.
“We wanted to be more competitive, and I think we’ve proven that.
“I think our percentage is relatively healthy. Yes, we’re two and eight, but I think we’ve got a lot more respect when we play against the top teams.
“We’re really happy with where he’s heading and what he’s building.”
In addition to Munn, the Supersaints have announced the re-signings of several key players, including co-captains Jacob Russell and Hayden Elliot, Tom Higgins, Fletcher Keck, Ethan Mantas, Lucas Grey and Cody Brogden.
“Our mantra has been, ‘Be part of the solution, not the problem’.” Osborne said.
“The players want to be part of that solution now. The decisions and discussions we’ve had over the last week, they’ve been really, really easy to have.
“The players are saying, ‘Where do I sign?’
“I think we’re in a really healthy position, and it will definitely allow us to go and hand-pick some players.
“I think we’re four or five players off being really competitive, if not pushing into that, you know, next level.
“That does allow us to go out and recruit quite strategically.”
The re-signings are a boost for the Supersaints ahead of their Past Players’ Day clash.
On top of paying tribute to club greats across football and netball, the 90th birthdays of St Albans icons Ron Osborne and Cliff Grinter will be celebrated.
“Too many people pass these days, and you don’t get a moment to cherish two legends of our club and two legends of local football,” Osborne, Ron’s son, said.
