Newtown & Chilwell are mourning the death of triple-premiership player Ross Crichton.
The Eagles confirmed Crichton’s passing via social media this morning.
During his 149 senior games, he featured in the club’s 1978 GDFL grand final win over North Shore, the year before the GFL was formed, and the back-to-back GFL premierships in 1985-86.
Crichton was especially important in the 1986 success against St Albans.
“Ross was a running half back whose dedication, fitness and skill made him a key part of Newtown’s success during his era,” a Facebook post said.
“Known for his run and carry from defence, he was a player who consistently stood up in big games, including the 1986 Grand Final victory.”
Crichton also played in the club’s reserve grade premiership in 1977.
A farewell will be held at Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club this Friday.
