Finalists have dominated this year’s GFNL Coaches’ Team of the Year, with 17 of the 22 positions taken by teams that finished in the top five.
Elimination final combatants Bell Park and St Joseph’s both had four players, while grand finalists South Barwon and St Mary’s, along with Newtown & Chilwell, each had three.
Leopold was best of the non-finalists, with captain Mitch Burgess and the high-flying Will Sheahan.
Guiding St Mary’s to the minor premiership earned Ben Boseley and Luke Rayner the coaching role.
They were among 11 first-time selections, with the team based on coaches’ nominations.
Nine players returned from last year’s team, including Eagles trio Ned Harris, Mitch Diamond and Braden Hocking; Joeys co-coach James Gow; Colac big man Zach Zdybel; St Albans spearhead Tom Higgins; St Mary’s defender Hamish Bourke; and Dragons veteran Steve Bensted and forward Jack Sarcevic.
