The working party established to develop a return-to-competition plan following Lara’s withdrawal of its open-age men’s football teams before the Geelong Football Netball League season will make its findings public next week.

In an email seen by K rock Football, Lara Sporting Club members have been invited to a meeting on Tuesday where Future Planning Group (FPG) chair Phil Clohesy, a former CEO of AFL Barwon’s forerunner Football Geelong, will present the group’s report and recommendations.

“This marks a significant milestone in the journey towards bringing football and netball back to our community,” Lara Sporting Club president Lou Goodwin said.

“This presentation is an opportunity to hear firsthand about the work that has been undertaken, the recommendations for moving forward, and the vision for the future of football and netball in Lara.

“We encourage all members to attend, ask questions, and be part of this important next step in shaping the future of our club.”

The FPG undertook a wide-ranging investigation into how Lara’s open-age football teams and A-grade netball side found themselves unable to compete in GFNL competition this year.

The group was tasked with conducting research and collecting data across several key areas, supported by a survey of current and former members, players, coaches, and officials.

Early findings released on April 29 revealed a strong financial position, but a disconnect between football and netball, which are treated as separate sections under the Lara Sporting Club model, and the need for a more structured approach to communication.

Joining Clohesy on the FPG were AFL Barwon CEO Kate Patterson, football boss Saran Naylor, former AFL regional manager Bruce Petering, and Lara representatives Shana Miatke (netball), Mark Guthrie (football) and Jason Hewitt (juniors).
