There has been widespread interest in the newly created AFL Barwon chief executive officer role, with more than 50 applications received before this (Tuesday) afternoon’s 3 o’clock deadline.

K rock Football understands there are interstate-based contenders among the applicants keen to help usher in a new era of local football and netball governance.

Applications opened on November 6 after AFL Barwon announced a restructuring of the administration of the two sports, including cutting ties with AFL Victoria’s Regional Administration Centre model and replacing the current commission with a board that will include the presidents of the Geelong and Bellarine leagues.
