At Selection – Opening Round

March 5, 2026 6:30 pm in by

Geelong will go into tomorrow night’s Opening Round clash with Gold Coast at People First Stadium without captain Patrick Dangerfield and reigning Coleman medallist Jeremy Cameron.

Dangerfield (calf) and Cameron (quad) are both expected to be right for next week’s GMHBA Stadium meeting with Fremantle.

Bailey Smith (calf), Gryan Miers (broken thumb) and Shannon Neale (shin) are right to go.

James Worpel is the lone new face in the Hoops after crossing from Hawthorn, with uncapped trio Jay Polkinghorne, Lenny Hofmann and Mitch Edwards the emergencies.

The Cats have five changes from the team that lost last year’s grand final to the Brisbane Lions.

Worpel, defender Tom Stewart, who will captain Geelong against the Suns, Tanner Bruhn, Mitch Knevitt and Ollie Henry weren’t part of the final quarter capitulation.

They replace Dangerfield, Cameron, Rhys Stanley, Tyson Stengle and Jack Bowes.

K rock is live from 6 pm Friday via FM 95.5 across Geelong and the Surf Coast, delay-free on the K rock app, and the AFL app.
