LONG-SERVING captain Joel Selwood says an adjustment to its style of play has Geelong still searching for consistency a third of the way through the season.
The Cats sit 7th on the ladder with a 4-3 record following losses to Fremantle and Hawthorn on either side of a 60-point win over the struggling North Melbourne.
Geelong started 2021 in the same fashion before winning 12 of its last 15 outings to claim the double chance.
“With a change of game plan, you’re never sure how the season will go,” Selwood said at the launch of the club’s community giving day, A Million Reasons Why, at Oberon Primary School.
“But, you probably expect it to have those ebbs and flows.
“You expect the dips. If you don’t, then you’re probably not realistic.
Selwood has welcomed the presence of some fresh faces in the team.
“We’ve got some new guys that we’re bringing through at the moment – we’ll look to continue to do that.
“Sam De Koning’s been a huge plus. Max Holmes. Brad Close has had a great start to the year.
“The improvement in these kids has been exceptional.”
“We probably missed a bit of Jack Henry on the weekend.”
To be held next month, A Million Reasons Why will aim to raise $1m in 24 hours to help support the club’s community programs for the next three years.
It is the second time the Cats have held the fundraiser.
Selwood says it’s good timing as the club looks to get back into the community following the impact of COVID-19 in the past two years.
“We’ve tried to do it to a different degree,” he said. “But, nothing’s ever as good as coming out.
“We’ve got (grades) 3 (and) 4 today.
“Coming putting smiles on faces and teaching them a little bit about Healthy Heroes, as is the case today.”
