RICHELLE Cranston will take on a more permanent role in the forward line when Geelong opens its 2021 AFLW campaign against North Melbourne on Sunday.
Cranston split her time between the midfield and forward in 2019-20, but the evolution of the Cats’ young midfield talent will see the 31-year-old use her talents inside 50m.
“Our midfield’s looking pretty handy; we’ve got all the young ones coming through,” Cranston told K rock’s Fresh Daily.
“Our forward line looks really strong, defenders are going well, so if we can put four quarters together, it’s looking really exciting for the weekend.”
Despite being Geelong’s second-most experienced AFLW player in terms of matches played after two seasons with Melbourne in 2017-18, Cranston admitted to being on edge before the Kangaroos clash.
“I am always nervous,” she said. “It’s my fifth year in the competition, and I still get really nervous.
“But, I guess that’s because I care so much.
“I don’t shy away from the nerves. It’s good nervous energy, and I feel good.
“I’ve just gotten used to it now.”
Sunday’s clash with North Melbourne is limited to a capacity of 8000, with no tickets available at the gate.
