Consecutive Friday night matches at GMHBA Stadium to open the season, and a pair of AFL curtain raisers highlight the VFL fixture for Geelong.

The Cats’ already confirmed Round 1 meeting with Essendon on March 20 will be followed by a clash with the Box Hill Hawks on March 27.

Geelong will then face Werribee on Easter Saturday before the bye for the annual VFL clash with the SANFL – the first of four weekends off across the season.

The Cats return to host Footscray on the afternoon of Friday, April 17, ahead of the club’s AFL meeting with the Western Bulldogs.

Their second bye follows that before taking on North Melbourne the afternoon of the twilight AFL clash with the Kangaroos.

Geelong, which will again be coached by Mark Corrigan, faces North Melbourne and Collingwood twice in its 18 games.

It will also play St Kilda at VFL level for the first time since the 2000 finals, with the Saints returning to the competition after being aligned with Sandringham and Springvale/Casey Scorpions in the past 25 years.

However, the Cats won’t face newcomers Tasmania, the GWS Giants, Coburg, Port Melbourne and Williamstown.

Meanwhile, Geelong’s VFLW team will travel interstate for the first time when it meets Tasmania in Round 9.

The Cats, who will have Taylah Hassett in charge for a second season, start their campaign against Williamstown at Deakin University on Saturday, May 16.

Geelong has 14 games across a 16-round season, which will crossover with the start of the AFLW season in mid-August, and will play Tassie and Carlton twice.
