Jeremy Cameron has fallen short of being fit enough to represent Victoria in this Saturday’s return of State of Origin.
The Geelong star was one of the first selected for the Big V’s clash with Western Australia at Optus Stadium.
However, the reigning Coleman medallist, who has been replaced by Gold Coast big man Ben King. is still short of being fully fit following surgery on a broken arm suffered in the Cats’ grand final loss to the Brisbane Lions.
It appears, though, he will be right for Geelong’s Opening Round meeting with the Suns.
“While I’ve done the majority of pre-season, I only started full-contact training last week,” Cameron said.
“Ideally, with another week, I’d be able to get the needed contact sessions under my belt to play in a match of this intensity.
“I’m disappointed I won’t be running out in the Big V this year, I know the boys will do Victoria proud, and I hope to get the opportunity to play in the future.”
Geelong will still have five players part of the first State of Origin contest in 27 years.
Captain Patrick Dangerfield, his deputy Tom Stewart, reigning best-and-fairest Max Holmes, and gun midfielder Bailey Smith are part of the Victorian team.
Emerging half-back Lawson Humphries will represent the Sandgropers.
