Geelong speedster Max Holmes is a chance to wear his first All-Australian blazer after being named in the 40-man squad.

Holmes is one of three Cats in contention for the final team, along with forward duo Jeremy Cameron and Tyson Stengle.

Holmes, who signed a four-year contract extension earlier in the season, played all 23 home-and-away games, averaging a career-high 24.2 disposals.

He also kicked 13 goals.

Cameron, whose nine-goal outing to finish the season against West Coast took his tally to 58 from 22 games, is chasing his fourth blazer and second as a Cat.

It’s the seventh time he’s topped 50 goals in a season.

After earning selection in 2022 off the back of 46 home-and-away goals, Stengle finished with just 27 in an injury-interrupted 2023 season.

However, he’s returned to form this year with 42 goals.

Geelong vice-captain Tom Stewart and defender Zach Guthrie can consider themselves unlucky not to earn a place in the squad.

The final team will be announced at Thursday’s AFL awards evening, where Geelong youngster Ollie Dempsey is favourite to be crowned this year’s Rising Star.
