MAX Holmes won’t be seen until the second half of the year, with the Geelong confirming the young gun has had surgery on a syndesmosis injury.
The 19-year-old, who has played 19 AFL games, hobbled from GMHBA Stadium in the first quarter of Saturday’s loss to Fremantle.
He went under the knife on Monday afternoon.
“Max Holmes has unfortunately suffered a syndesmosis injury against Freo,” head of medical and conditioning services Harry Taylor said
“He’ll have surgery on that which will rule him out for the short-to-medium term.
“Max has completed a large body of work and we expect him to begin his rehab program before resuming and having an influence in our AFL team.”
CATS SEARCHING FOR CONSISTENCY: SELWOOD
Ruck Rhys Stanley is no certainty to line up against the GWS Giants in Canberra on Saturday after suffering an ankle injury late in the clash with the Dockers.
“He’s commenced reconditioning exercises and will be tested late in the week,” Taylor said.
On Saturday, Patrick Dangerfield (cork) told the club’s pre-match President’s function he would take on the Giants, but Taylor stopped short of declaring him a certainty.
“Pat has completed several solid conditioning sessions and his availability will be assessed later in the week,” Taylor said.
Defender Jack Henry hasn’t been ruled out of the Giants’ clash having not played since Easter Monday with a foot issue.
“Jack Henry continues to be evaluated day-by-day as the club monitors how his injured foot feels to determine his training loads,” Taylor said.
“We are seeing general improvement in Jack’s function.”
Midfielder Sam Menegola is also in the test category as he looks to play his first VFL match since early April after a combination of concussion and knee soreness.
“Sam is tracking well with big blocks of running completed,” Taylor said.
He’s in a great frame of mind and will be a test later this week to see if he’s available.”
