Experienced small forward Jackson McLachlan and new addition Matt Ling will share Geelong’s VFL captaincy in 2022.

A member of the Cats’ list since 2018, McLachlan, from St Joseph’s, was selected in last season’s VFL Team of the Year.

Ling has joined Geelong after being delisted following four AFL games with Sydney.

A member of the Geelong Falcons TAC Cup premiership team in 2017, he was selected by the Swans with pick 14 in that year’s National Draft.

However, his time in the Harbour City was cruelled by injury and he managed just four AFL matches.

McLachlan and Ling, who are both part of the Cats’ AFL COVID top-up list, will lead a seven-man leadership group.

It also features Ryan Abbott (Grovedale), Dan Capiron (St Joseph’s), Angus Byrne (Echuca) and Leopold-aligned duo Tom Feely and Ollie Tate.

Geelong opens its VFL campaign against Essendon at GMHBA Stadium at 2:05pm on Saturday.
