GEELONG midfielder Quinton Narkle has avoided serious damage to an ankle he injured during Friday night’s win over the Brisbane Lions.

Narkle was subbed out of the contest at three quarter time after rolling his ankle and was spotted at Monday’s open training session in a moonboot.

“He’s got a lateral ligament injury, and he won’t play this weekend,” Geelong football boss Simon Lloyd told K rock 95.5.

“He hasn’t got a syndesmosis injury or fractures, or anything like that, which is positive.

“Let’s see how he gets through rehab, and, hopefully, he’s back playing before we know it.”

Captain Joel Selwood is a certainty to play in the traditional Easter Monday clash with Hawthorn after being rested,

Reigning best-and-fairest Tom Stewart will also return after a bout of gastro made him a late out against the Lions.

“There’s a lot of gastro going around Geelong at the moment,” Lloyd said.

Geelong will have some calls to make at selection this week, with the match-up against the Hawks followed by a trip to Hobart for a meeting with North Melbourne off a six-day break.

Throwing another curveball at the Cats is the scheduling of VFL matches.

Geelong travels to Southport on Thursday night for its Round 4 match before having a bye the following weekend.
