Refreshed ruck to return via VFLW

OLIVIA Fuller will have to fight to regain her spot in Geelong’s AFLW team via the VFLW competition.

Fuller played the opening five rounds of the AFLW season after the Cats used a pre-draft selection on the former South Australian basketball star last year.

She was listed as managed by Geelong for last week’s loss to the Gold Coast.

However, an impressive performance by Liv Barber in the VFLW season opener against Carlton earned her the chance to share AFLW ruck duties with Rene Caris, forcing Fuller into Saturday’s match-up with Hawthorn at Deakin Uni.

“She was managed last week just to get over a couple of things that had been impacting her form,” AFLW coach Dan Lowther said.

“She went back home to South Australia and visited her family. She’s just become a new aunty, so it was great for her to get over there for a weekend.

“She’s come back energised, which is great, so she’ll go and do what she needs to do in the VFL and then we can make some assessments off the back of that.”

Fuller has been joined in the VFLW team by Madisen Maguire and Laura Gardiner, who were dropped from the AFLW team.

Joining Barber in going out of the team that rolled the Blues are VFLW-listed duo Annie Haigh and Taylah Nelson.
