FOR a decade, Isaac Smith was the enemy.
Part of the Hawthorn dynasty that reaped a hat-trick premierships, Smith – along with the majority of his teammates in brown and gold – was the subject of plenty of ribbing from Geelong fans for much of that era.
They revelled in his now infamous miss after the siren in the 2016 qualifying final.
But with one kick, he may have just won the over Cats fans.
The speedster kicked Geelong’s lone goal in a thrilling one-point win over the Brisbane Lions to ensure the Hoops avoided going 0-2 for only the second time since 2014.
Smith admits it will take some time to adjust to his new environment.
“It’s probably going to take 10, 12, 20 games to get my head around everyone; I’m exactly sure what’s going on,” he told K rock Football following the match.
“I think in the first 15-20 minutes of the game, I was running around like a bit of a headless chook, and I couldn’t get near it.
“It’ll take time to learn the little intricacies of certain players.
“But, at the moment, I seem to be working well with ‘Hawk’ (Tom Hawkins), so, hopefully, the continues.”
