A famous name lives on at Geelong, with the son of a Cats great picked up in Wednesday’s AFL rookie draft.
Geelong used pick 32 to pick up Geelong Falcons product Osca Riccardi, son of Peter.
Peter played 288 games for the Cats throughout his career, winning the 1998 best and fairest.
His son has been touted as a promising small midfielder, with a good footy brain to go with a solid work rate and endurance.
Osca was the fastest to complete the 2km time trial at the State Draft Combine, posting a rapid time of six minutes and 17 seconds.
Geelong also picked up Riccardi’s Falcons teammate with an earlier pick in the rookie draft, selecting Oscar Murdoch with pick 18.
Murdoch’s described as a versatile defender who can play tall or small, with a penetrating kick and strong intercept marking features of his game.
The 18-year-old also represented Vic Country at the NAB AFL Under 18 National Championships.
