Mitch Duncan’s hopes of being part of Geelong’s top-two push have suffered a blow after suffering an AC joint injury in Sunday’s VFL loss to Richmond.

The 305-game veteran was unused as the substitute in the Cats’ AFL win over the Tigers on Saturday night before fronting up at GMHBA Stadium the next day.

The club says the out-of-contract Duncan will meet with a specialist later this week to determine his course of treatment, which will give the 34-year-old a better idea of how long he will be sidelined.

The news is also not ideal for Cam Guthrie.

The two-time Carji Greeves medallist, who has been restricted to ten AFL matches since the 2022 grand final, is still at least two weeks away as he continues to experience low-grade calf symptoms.

Second-year forward Oli Wiltshire will also be sidelined this weekend after entering the concussion protocol following Sunday’s VFL match.

Young midfielder Jhye Clark remains in the protocol, having not played since June 14.

However, Tyson Stengle (family reasons) and Bailey Smith (illness) are both expected to face the GWS Giants on Saturday.

Key defender Sam De Koning is listed as a test as he closes in on a return from a shoulder injury suffered against Essendon in Round 14.

And injury-prone ruck Toby Conway is now listed as being one week away from playing his first match at any level in 2025.

There is still no timeframe for a return for Jake Kolodjashnij.
