GEELONG has rewarded Lachie Bond for a solid start to the GFL season with a spot in its team for Thursday night’s Round 4 VFL opener against Southport.

Bond has consecutive five-goal hauls under his belt, helping Newtown & Chilwell to wins over Bell Park and Leopold over the past fortnight.

The Maryborough product spent 2021 on Carlton’s VFL list, kicking three goals in his lone appearance for the Blues against Coburg.

“I was with Carlton in the pre-season and down at Geelong at the moment,” Bond told K rock Football following Newtown & Chilwell’s win over Leopold on Sunday.

“I’ve been training there the past two weeks. So, I’ll give it a crack there and see how I go.”

Like last week’s win over the Brisbane Lions, Geelong will again take in a team dominated by VFL talent.

Only nine AFL-listed players will make the trip north. However, it doesn’t include Sam Menegola.

The wingman hasn’t played since suffering a concussion against Collingwood on April 2.

Zach Guthrie, who was the medi-sub for the AFL win over the Lions and played the last quarter as the replacement for the injured Quinton Narkle, will be the most experienced for the Cats.
