The spot is a popular place for everything from canoeing to picnicking, council after feedback on what future the community wants the Creek to have
They’re working with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority to discuss flood risk mitigation options.
Mayor Mike Bodsworth said they wanted to learn more about the area and how to protect it.
“For many Aireys locals, the Painkalac is a treasured part of our environment, and we know it’s also critically important to local Traditional Owners,” he said.
“Previous feedback highlighted the concern about assets and infrastructure flooding and the need to protect natural systems and the floodplain.
“Given there have been increased artificial openings in the past few years due to more unpredictable storms and heavy rain, now is an ideal time for us to check in with the community.”
