City’s newest library gets opening date

The region’s newest library is to open its doors within the next month, with an opening date for the Armstrong Creek facility announced by the City of Greater Geelong.

An official grand opening for the $21m library in the Armstrong Creek Town Centre precinct will happen on July 25, before it’s open to the public on August 1.

The Geelong Regional Library Corporation in on track to complete fit-out of the three-storey building this month, which will include stocking more than 30,000 new books.

Construction for Biyal-a Armstrong Creek Library was officially completed in May, just under two years since it began in July 2022.

“The building is so distinctive from the outside and it’s looking amazing inside too,” Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan said.

“We know the love the community has for our local libraries and this building is going to be a real focal point for Armstrong Creek residents.

“It’s very exciting to have the opening now so close.”

The striking building was designed by Buchan Architects, who worked with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners to create a ‘living water’ narrative.

It was officially named ‘Biyal-a Armstrong Creek Library’ by the Council in April 2023.
