Police have continued to target anti-social behaviour and retail theft in Geelong’s CBD, making more than 350 arrests over the last year.

Officers have been focussing on shopping centre and public transport hubs during Operation Plymouth.

Almost 300 offences are related to shop theft, but police have also arrested people for assaults and criminal damage.

They have also made referrals to those sleeping rough or stealing groceries.

Fines have been handed out for traffic offences in the city centre, including speeding and using a mobile phone while driving.

In the most recent operation earlier this month, a 41-year-old woman was arrested, accused of stealing $3000 worth of pharmaceuticals from a supermarket.

Police linked her and a 44-year-old man to more than $30,000 worth of shop thefts in the last week.

They’ve been charged with offences including shop theft and unlawful assault.

The woman’s due to face court on Wednesday and the man on May 15.

Inspector Clare Murphy said police patrol the CBD each day.

” (Operation) Plymouth sees bolstered numbers during busy school holiday periods when more families and children are out and about,” Inspector Murphy said.

“The results send a clear message to people that if you choose to offend in the Geelong CBD, you will be arrested and held to account.”
