With warnings from our local CFA that bushfires could arrive earlier this year, the Surf Coast shire is now calling on locals to start preparing.
With it comes a warning around tree lopping, including to make sure any actions have council approval.
Locals being urged to contact council before undertaking actions on trees on nature strips.
“On your property vegetation management like tree lopping and removal and/or ground works like grading may require council approval,” the council said in a social post.
“Be sure you know what works can be done without a planning permit.
“On nature strips or road reserves vegetation management such as tree lopping, removal or ground works such as grading is not permitted.
“These works require council permission.
“Unauthorised vegetation removal can result in serious penalties or legal action.”
