If betting on this year’s Les Ash Medal was legal, you would struggle to find a bookmaker willing to take your money, given how hot of a favourite Logan Wagener is.

K rock Football has asked the coaches of each club if they think the Newcomb midfielder won’t top tomorrow (Wednesday) night’s count at Buckleys, and there’s been absolute crickets.

The numbers don’t lie as to why the former Leopold star should become the first player since Ricky O’Toole in 2007 – and the fourth overall – from the Dinosaurs/Power to claim the award.

Wagener averaged a competition-best 37.4 disposals per game, of which 15.9 were contested.

He tallied 40 disposals or more on ten occasions and racked up 50 in the triple-figure mauling of Barwon Heads in Round 19.

Wagener was limited to 30 disposals three times.

He also averaged 11 clearances and nine score involvements.

Likely challengers are Torquay duo Tynan Smith and 2024 winner Matt Boag, Queenscliff ball magnet Lachie Kidd and Portarlington ruck Scott Greenhough.

Geelong Amateur co-coach Sam Lloyd, who became the first player since teammate Mitch Day in 2015 to kick a century of goals in the home-and-away season, should also poll well.

However, the Ash-Piec medal double has only been done twice previously.

Day also won the Ash in 2015, while Mark Browne achieved the feat in 1986 in helping Torquay to an undefeated premiership.

The evening will also feature the awarding of best-and-fairest medals in reserves football (Don Cole Medal), and the five senior netball grades.

Leading goalkicker and netball hotshot winners will also be announced, as will the rising stars for football and netball.
