Queenscliff will request AFL Barwon review the final score of its loss to Barwon Heads, which could impact the Seagulls’ finals hopes.
The scoreboard at Queenscliff Recreation Reserve showed Barwon Heads had claimed a four-point win, 14.4 (88) to 12.12 (84), moving them back into the top five with one round of the home-and-away season remaining.
However, the Coutas have reviewed the match footage and believe the Seagulls were incorrectly credited with a goal during the second quarter.
When the players left the field for the half-time, the scoreboard showed Queenscliff leading 7.7 (49) to 4.4 (28).
However, when players returned for the third quarter, the Seagulls score had been adjusted to 5.3 (33).
“We were aware of the incorrect scoreline at half-time and raised this formally with the umpires at the time,” a statement provided by Queenscliff to K rock Football on Saturday night said.
“Our understanding is that the timekeepers box, live scorer and one goal umpire had the correct score at half-time.
“However, the senior goal umpire had another score and has made the decision (to adjust).
“We have since reviewed the footage and can confirm Barwon Heads were awarded a goal instead of a point in the second quarter.”
A change to the result would see Barwon Heads drop out of the top five and be replaced by Geelong Amateur.
It would leave the Seagulls needing to beat minor premier Torquay and have Ammos lose to bottom-placed Newcomb to snatch an elimination final berth.
When contacted for comment, Barwon Heads told K rock Football it is content for AFL Barwon to deal with Queencliff’s request.
