Modewarre has received a boost ahead of Saturday’s grand final against Queenscliff, with Avery Knight claiming the Don Cole Medal as Bellarine reserves best-and-fairest.
Knight, who made five senior appearances after joining the Warriors from GFNL club St Joseph’s in the off-season, polled 15 votes to win by one vote from Torquay’s Chad Grossman on 14.
Teammate Troy Anderson, who won the award in 2021, Geelong Amateur’s Cody Diana, and Barwon Heads’ Hugh McKay were a vote further back, tied for third.
Knight’s tally came courtesy of five best-on-ground performances, including three consecutive from rounds 12-14 before voting went live after Round 16.
Grossman polled three votes in the Tigers’ Round 20 win over Newcomb to claim outright second.
It’s the second year in a row that Diana has finished third.
Knight is the fifth Warrior to win the Don Cole Medal, joining Anderson (2021), Troy Fenyvesi (2017), Scott Hovey (2014), and Gerard Black (2006).
