The BFNL has paid tribute to former president Geoff Donnelley following his death.

Donnelly served four years as president from 1998 to 2001, which included the handover of administration from the Bellarine Football League executive to AFL Barwon’s predecessor, Football Geelong.

Before taking the top job, he spent three years as senior vice-president and two years as junior vice-president.

Before joining the Bellarine executive, Donnelley served as president of Ocean Grove for three seasons in the late 1980s.

He was honoured with BFL life membership in 1997.

“It’s with sadness that we announce the passing of a stalwart of the Bellarine Football Netball League,” current president Michael Fitzgerald said.

“Geoff played a key role in helping guide the BFL into the Football Geelong era.

“The thoughts of the entire BFNL community are with the Donnelly family at this time.”
